How to Keep Your Skin Matte & Shine-Free Skin for HOURS!

by Jessica Harlow on June 4, 2012

One of the #1 questions I get from girls is how to keep your makeup looking fresh for hours on end. 9/10 the people asking this question have oily skin, skin that tends to start getting shiny after even just an hour of wearing makeup. While having oilier skin is a good thing — you’ll look younger for longer — it can be incredibly annoying when you’re a busy girl that needs to look fierce around the clock! Of course, I never leave home without some blotting sheets (Shiseido makes my favorite! I’ve been carrying them around since high school!). It’s a really easy way to soak up excess oil and shine throughout the day without disturbing the rest of your makeup. A compact powder is a must just to touch up here and there. These are good things to do on a daily basis, however, there are certain occasions where we just need to focus on being fabulous and just simply can’t be bothered with touch-ups. For those occasions, you can go one of two routes — a pricey makeup finishing spray or spend a couple bucks on a bottle of Milk of Magnesia. I just love a good bargain!

While Milk of Magnesia is practically magical when it comes to keeping your skin matte for hours on end, I don’t recommend using it on a daily basis. One of two things could happen: a) your skin can get overly dry and then eventually start to produce even more oil, or b) your skin can just get used to it and it won’t be as effective. So, save this for special occasions or no more than once or twice a week.

Hope you enjoyed the tutorial and found my tips helpful!
