For as long as I can remember I’ve been afraid of contact lenses. Something about sticking a piece of plastic (or whatever they’re made of) on my eyeball and keeping it there all day just didn’t sit well in my head. Plus, I’ve come up with a dozen things that could go wrong all of which I’ve been told aren’t exactly possible or likely. I’ve been perfectly content with just wearing glasses to drive and watch TV or visit the movies. My eyesight is only not so great when it comes to seeing things at a distance, especially if we’re talking about reading lit up signs!
Vision aside, my eyes are naturally a really dark brown — almost black — like Johnny Depp’s! I don’t mind that. I feel like them being so dark adds a certain mystery to my look, or at least I’d like to think so! There’s a Greek saying about people with black eyes. It says that whatever people with black eyes say will come true.
Trying colored contact lenses has always been something I’ve had in the back of my mind. “Someday, I’ll try them,” I’d tell people who experimented with them after I’d give them a lengthy speech of how scared I was to actually apply them. Someday never came and in the meantime there’ve been a handful of looks I’ve done where a different eye color would have made the look pop more but my fear was always in the way of it all.
One day I was watching a tutorial by my dear friend, Michelle Phan, and just fell in love with these almost grey lenses she popped on. I thought to myself, “Wow, they look so natural! I need to try those!” I took a step in a brave direction and ordered them. However, I pretty much just kept them in their box unopened for a few months. “Someday!”
How do I put them on? How do I take them off? (Luckily, I had someone show me! Thank you! <3) I searched for tutorials all over the internet and finally, after a couple of tries, I managed to get them on and boy do I love them. They look slightly darker on me than they do on Michelle in the video but I believe that’s because her eyes are naturally a bit lighter than my own — most people’s are! Regardless, they brighten up my whole face. I had no idea colored lenses could make such a massive difference to your whole look! I initially purchased these to use for certain looks but I love the effects so much that I am looking forward to wearing them more regularly in real life. I even want to experiment with different colors, perhaps even a light brown for a more subtle effect?
Have you ever tried colored contact lenses? I’m obsessed with these Solotica “Ice” lenses but I’m looking at trying other brands and colors to compare. I’m a total noob when it comes to this stuff! Which are your favorites? Tweet me and let me know!
P.S. – I’ve done some research online about WRLens.com and there are a number of negative reviews. In my personal experience, my lenses took almost a month to get to me after ordering but they did arrive in great condition. The customer service was also good at responding to my emails and questions. Was I just lucky?
