I’ve gotten SO many compliments on my skin in the past few months which tells me, I’m doing SOMETHING right!
I’ve BARELY had a blemish — and as someone who breaks out whenever the wind blows — I think I’ve NAILED what’s been working for me. While I won’t promise it will solve your skin problems (I’ve suffered w/ acne for most of my life & know how frustrating it can be) I really think it’s worth a try.
For the longest time, I used Benzoyl Peroxide (10%, the highest you can get OTC) topics treatment almost every single night. It was the ONLY way to keep my skin manageable. Whenever I’d skip for too long, my skin would pay for it! But, even though it worked really well 95% of the time, it’d often be way too drying on my skin. So I’d be a Flakey Francine most of the time! Hah! NOT CUTE!!!
But, as the summer creeped up & I started self-tanning — Benzoyl Peroxide only made it EXTRA hard to maintain my self-tan on my face so I avoided it & ended up committing full time to: Glossier’s Super Pure. NO JOKE, I’m on my 5th (no exaggeration, FIFTH!!) bottle of the stuff. It’s a little bit pricey & I don’t use as recommended — they say just a drop or two once a day. I use it 2x, and I basically do about half of whatever the dropper sucks up each time. It’s made such a difference. I’d rather pay a little extra for something that’s working rather than blow my money on a bunch of cheap stuff that’s not exactly cutting it. If you’ve never shopped from Glossier before, use this link to get 20% off your first purchase.
So, the Super Pure has been great for mostly preventing my skin from getting out of control. When I do get a blemish — it’s been so easy to take care of quickly. I apply my Super Pure all over the skin first, just like normal. But if there’s any active break out, I reach for my this magical pink potion from Mario Badescu. You just dip a clean q-tip straight into the bottle until the cotton part is completely submerged into the pink stuff at the very bottom & then you pull it straight out and dab over any spots that need it. Of course, don’t double dip. If you need more, grab a new q-tip. But, a little bit typically goes a long way to really dry out a pimple. It’s even helped with those annoying, under-the-skin pimples.
Another thing to keep in mind with the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion, don’t shake it up. Mine got shaken up once on a plane (I would never go away without this stuff) and I panicked. BUT, I let it sit overnight & it separated on its own and is still effective.
This has been SO helpful for me over the summer & has helped me abandon Benzoyl Peroxide almost completely which is GREAT as my skin is kind of on the sensitive side. Speaking of sensitivity, BP makes your skin very photosensitive — in fact, it caused me to get 2nd degree burns ON MY FACE a few summers back. Super Pure + “The Pink Potion” have been gentle on my skin.
Oh, and another helpful tip is to use SPF no matter what. Even though my new routine doesn’t make my skin more sensitive to the sunlight, it’s still crucial to protect your skin (esp. your face) from the sun. I’m as pale as a sheet of paper, my melanin is probably in the negatives, so I have no choice but to be extra careful. If you’re like me & regular sunscreen breaks you out, try this one OR do what I do & smooth on some of this CC cream that has SPF 50 over your face. It feels really lightweight & doesn’t look heavy or cakey on the skin + seems to hold up well in the heat. I’m always wearing it, even in the pool. It holds up well.
Okay, so I wrote this entire post on my iPhone while in an uber. Multitasking at it’s finest! Hope you liked it & found it helpful! LMK what you want to see next by sending me an email here.
