We all have those days where we barely feel like or have the time to put on any makeup…who wants to fuss with foundation and eyeshadows and mascara every single day? These are some of my “No Makeup” Makeup secrets…
FIRST, THE OBVIOUS…
Even if you’re not wearing makeup, don’t neglect skincare. In fact, this is a great time to give your skin a little extra love. Moisturizing (I like this one because it has caffeine in it & instantly wakes up the skin) can make such a difference in the way your skin looks and feels. Oh, and of course, SPF is a must especially when you’re not wearing any makeup and don’t have any barrier between your skin & the sun. Apply some to the backs of your hands too to keep your hands protected from the sun’s aging rays.
TIP #1: A LITTLE DUSTING OF LOOSE POWDER
Even if you don’t want to wear any makeup at all, a little loose powder can help keep shine to a minimum. You can use a translucent powder or a tinted one. If you go with translucent, just focus on the areas you want to keep matte — like the T-Zone. I like to use Maybelline Fit Me Loose Powder in “Medium” as a kind of a lightweight & natural bronzer. “Medium” is a little darker than my natural skin tone so dusting it over the areas where the sun would naturally hit (the high points of the face…think across the forehead, top of the cheeks, nose, and chin) helps my face match the rest of my self-tanned body…
TIP #2: DON’T FORGET TO GLOW
Speaking of body, I ALWAYS highlight my collarbone & shoulders! It makes a huge difference. Even if I’m not wearing any foundation/concealer, I still love to highlight the high points of my cheeks, above the brows, & down the bridge of the nose. Just make sure to blend it out and it’ll make it look like you’re actual skin naturally glows. My fave drugstore highlighter is Maybelline’s Master Chrome in “Molten Gold.” For something a bit more subtle/less golden, I like this one from Physician’s Formula.
#TIP 3: Conceal if You Must
If you go back to some very old Jessica Harlow tutorials (I used to call them “glamour presentations”), you’ll know I used to dot on some of the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer on my face & blend it out. It’s one of my fave drugstore concealers to use as a foundation. A little goes a long way & it looks quite natural & feels light on the skin. The best part? It takes up exactly 0 space in your purse so it’s easy to bring along for touch ups on the go.
PSA: A CLEAN MANICURE IS A MUST
I’ll never understand why girls will leave a dot of left over chipped polish on their nails. If your polish is beyond a few minor chips at the edges, just remove it! No nail polish can look just as chic and is always going to look better than a manicure well past its expiration date. Manicured doesn’t have to mean painted, it can also mean neat. If you do decide to paint your nails, my go-to red for fall has been Maybelline’s Color Show in “Paint the Town.” ♥️
